Advanced Art Programs Continue to Grow

Art teachers at QO are still focusing on the introductory Fundamentals of Art course, in order to motivate and prepare them for more advanced courses.

As a result, Studio Art has grown from 16 students in ‘03-‘04, to 55 students in ‘04-’05 and to 85 students this year! The impact is being felt now in Studio Art 2, with an unprecedented 30 students. These students will be in AP Studio Art next year, and we anxiously await the results of the portfolio evaluations…

The numbers in Advanced Photography and Advanced Ceramics also continue to grow. We now have 70+ students in Advanced Photography and 50+ students in Advanced Ceramics. Many of these advanced students will also end up taking AP Studio Art in their senior year, preparing a 2D or 3D portfolio, focusing on their area of specialty.

Vertical Articulation in the Computer Science Department Results in Increased Numbers in AP Classes

Computer Science teachers spent last year working together to develop programming standards within the department, which are first introduced in the beginning level programming classes, Discovering Programming and Computer Programming 1. Their collaborative efforts have paid off as this year we watched the number of students electing to continue studying programming double. We now have 32 students in Computer Programming 2, the first of 2 AP programming classes offered at QO.

Signature Program Continues to Fund CollegeBoard training for our AP Teachers

Mr. Walker, a new teacher from the Science Department attended Physics training at Ball State University. Ms. Gumnerdngam from the Science Department and Ms. Greenberg and Ms. Rosenthal, from the Foreign Language department attended AP training at LaSalle University . We are very lucky at QO to be able to use Signature funds to provide this training opportunity for teachers. Many of our teachers discovered this summer, that most teachers attending the training from other schools and school districts paid for the training out of their own pockets.

Questions about our program should be directed to coordinators, Barbara Blum or Julie Newcomer.
