>>IMPORTANT DATES:

Transgender Day of Remembrance, November 20, 2007

-The Transgender Day of Remembrance is held in November each year to memorialize those who were killed due to anti-transgender hatred or prejudice. Although not every person represented during the Day of Remembrance self-identified as transgender, each was a victim of violence based on bias against transgender people. The list of deaths available at http://www.rememberingourdead.org only contains those deaths known to the transgender community or that have been reported to the media.

National Coming Out Day: October 11, 2007.

This day is important because by "coming out" as gay, lesbian, bisexual or transgender, we can work to achieve recognition and equal rights. ( "Coming out" is the term used when a GLBT person tells others about their sexual orientation.) For more information about coming out and the history of this day click here.

LAST DECEMBER (2006) Out poet, writer, editor and filmmaker Michelle Sewell was a guest speaker during lunch. This amazing DC based artist just recently edited and published an anthology called Growing Up Girl. It is an anthology of stories written by girls, "voices from marginalized spaces".
